Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you offer?
I offer supportive counselling services for:

  • Children (ages 4–12)

  • Adolescents (ages 13–18)

  • Adults

  • Parental support and guidance

  • Workplace and management support

  • Professional supervision

My work focuses on emotional wellbeing, coping skills, and supporting individuals and families through life’s challenges.

Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Counselling is confidential within ethical and legal limits.
There are specific situations where confidentiality may need to be broken, such as concerns about safety or legal reporting requirements. These limits are discussed clearly during the consent process.

How does confidentiality work when working with children?
When working with children, confidentiality is balanced with parental responsibility and the child’s best interests.
Session content is not routinely shared with parents. Parents may receive general feedback or guidance where this is helpful and appropriate.

Do you communicate with schools or child-care providers?
Where helpful, I can collaborate with schools, crèches, after-school programmes, or other child-care providers - but only with written parental consent.
Any communication is limited, appropriate, and focused on supporting the child’s wellbeing.

Can schools or professionals refer children to you?
Schools and child-care providers are welcome to suggest counselling to parents or guardians.
The parent or legal guardian must contact the practice directly to begin the process.

Do you work with divorced or separated families?
Yes. I regularly support children and families navigating separation or divorce.
My role is to provide a neutral, supportive space focused on the child’s emotional wellbeing. I do not take sides or become involved in disputes.

Do you provide reports or letters for court?
My work is supportive rather than legal or forensic. I do not prepare reports or documentation for court proceedings or legal decisions.
If legal input is required, I can help guide families toward the appropriate professionals.

What if I’m involved in legal proceedings?
Counselling can still be helpful as emotional support during difficult legal processes, provided the counselling space remains separate from legal matters.

Do you offer emergency or crisis services?
The practice does not provide emergency or after-hours crisis support.
If urgent help is needed, clients are encouraged to contact emergency services or appropriate crisis support resources.

How is personal information protected?
All personal information is handled in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and stored securely.
Further details are available in the practice Privacy Notice.
